Emily Hartmann

I have always had a deep passion for working with children, which naturally led me to pursue a career as a preschool teacher. Crafting stories and activities for my students was always one of my favorite parts of the job, and before long, I realized I wanted to share those ideas with a wider audience. That realization inspired me to become a children's book writer and illustrator, drawing my greatest inspiration from my own two adorable kids. Through my books, my goal is to spark curiosity, imagination, and a love of learning in young readers. I also want to empower parents, giving them the tools and inspiration they need to actively support their children's development and creativity every day.

I always found a home in writing. My journey began traditionally—with pen, paper, and stacks of notebooks—before migrating to now-forgotten blogs and, eventually, to the messy but magical world of Word documents. As an introvert, I often find my imaginary worlds far more active than my calm, monotonous daily life. In my works, I love to transform my characters' ordinary lives through fateful, supernatural events. I enjoy writing in the 3rd person POV, mostly focusing on one character to make them shine introspectively.

Well, hello there. I'm Emmy. I am a Cuban American indie author, and SEEKING IN THE DARKNESS is my debut novel. By day, I work in technology as a user experience and accessibility professional, where I spend my time understanding people’s experiences, solving complex problems, and creating products that are intuitive and inclusive. Those same passions for empathy, curiosity, and human resilience shape my fiction. It’s also notable that I don’t hate corporate life as much as my character, Sandy, does but I have definitely heard the corporate horror stories after many years in the field. I live in the southern United States with my husband, and our two children, and enough ideas for far more books than there are hours in the day.
