Finished books are free. Works in progress cost a coffee. Catalogues, about two.
That is the whole model. If you are an individual author with a published book, everything here is free and always will be: 5 listings come with the account, and a few dollars adds more if you ever need them. The one paid plan for authors covers a book nobody can list anywhere else, the one you are still writing. And presses, publications and other organisations list their whole catalogue on the Business plan, with a publisher page of their own.

Need more than 5?
Extra slots come in bundles of 5: $3 USD a month or $30 USD a year, plus tax where it applies, up to 15 books in all. Added from your account page whenever you need them; if a bundle ever lapses your books are hidden, never deleted.
Messaging
Every account gets 5 free conversation openers a month, and replies are always free. Need more? Packs are $5 USD for 50 tokens, plus tax where it applies, bought from your messages page, and they never expire.

Checkout is hosted by Stripe, so your card never touches our servers. Stripe sells the plan as merchant of record and adds your country's tax at checkout, so the total depends on where you are. Your statement will show LINK.COM* INDIEFICTION, not IndieFiction. Cancel anytime; a cancelled month simply runs out its days. Priced in USD worldwide.

Your listings and publisher page are visible while the plan is active. If the plan lapses they are hidden, not deleted, and everything returns the moment it restarts. The first 15 days of your first subscription are free: card up front, and cancelling before the trial ends means you are never charged. Restarting a lapsed plan bills straight away. Checkout is hosted by Stripe as merchant of record, tax added at checkout, priced in USD worldwide.
The short version: if you are an author and your book is finished, keep your money and list it free. The author plan only makes sense while you're still writing. The Business plan is for presses and publishers with a whole catalogue to list.
The reader list, honestly
The list is the part you can't get anywhere else; everything else is visibility. Readers are told, right at the form, that their email goes to you and that you'll hold it yourself. In return you agree to use it only to announce this book: never sold, never shared, never folded into other marketing, always with a way to opt out. Downloads are logged, and misusing a list ends the subscription. Fair on both sides, and written into the terms.
What happens if I cancel?
Either plan runs to the end of the time you've paid for, and nothing is deleted. On the author plan, your work in progress and its chapters are then hidden, and you get 30 days to download your reader list (we email you) before our copy is deleted. On the Business plan, your listings and publisher page are hidden the day the plan lapses and return the moment it restarts; we keep them for at least two years. Resubscribe any time and everything comes back exactly as you left it.
Can I try it first?
On the author plan, the first month is the try. There's no trial state and no card-charged-when-you-forget surprise: you buy one month, watch whether readers start finding your book, and decide the way you'd decide about a second coffee. The Business plan works the other way round: the first 15 days of your first subscription are free, card up front, and cancelling before the trial ends means you are never charged. The trial is on your first subscription only; restarting a lapsed plan bills straight away.
What counts as a business?
Presses, imprints, magazines, publications, and anyone listing books they publish on other people's behalf. The free plan is a promise to individual indie authors listing their own work, and the Business plan is what keeps that promise affordable. Genuinely not sure which side you fall on? When the book is finished?
Announce it to your list, delete the work in progress, and submit the finished book free like any other. Then cancel the subscription, or start the next book. (This one is for authors; a Business plan simply keeps its catalogue listed for as long as it runs.)
Why charge for anything?
The two paid plans are what keep the free part free: hosting, email, the domain, security. The intent is for them to fund real people working on IndieFiction. What stays true either way is that an individual author publishing a finished book here will never pay a thing.
