Press and media

Writing about indie publishing, or about IndieFiction itself? Everything here is yours to use without asking: the logo files, the description, the numbers and a contact that reaches a person rather than a form.

How to describe us

Four lengths, all written to be copied as they stand. If you would rather write your own, the two facts worth getting right are that listing a book is free, and that readers buy from whichever retailer the author chose rather than from us.

The problem we exist for

Most independently published books never find their readers. Not because they are not good, but because online discovery runs on sales rank and advertising budget, and a first-time novelist has neither.

One sentence

IndieFiction is a free catalogue of independently published books, where readers browse by genre, mood and hand-picked reading lists rather than by algorithm, and authors list their work without paying a fee or a commission.

One paragraph

IndieFiction is a free catalogue of independently published books, built so those books get found. Readers browse by genre, by mood and trope, through hand-picked reading lists, or by unwrapping a book at random. Every book page links straight to wherever its author sells it, so readers buy from the author and the site takes nothing. Short stories are the exception: those are published in full and free to read on the site. Authors list a finished book and get a permanent page for it, with five listings free, no commission, and nobody standing between them and their reader. Alongside the catalogue the site publishes practical guides on writing, editing, publishing and marketing, and an open question board where authors answer each other.

For readers. Browsing is free. Explore more than 500 indie titles by genre, by mood and trope, or through reading lists put together by hand rather than by software. Every book page links straight to wherever its author sells it, so you buy from them and we take nothing. Short stories are the exception: those we publish in full, free to read on the site. Try Blind Date with a Book, where you choose a mood and unwrap three matches without seeing the cover or author first. Save what you want to read, follow the authors you like, and publish reviews and notes on a reader page of your own. Join the reader list and tick one box so authors looking for early readers can offer you an advance copy, free.

For authors. List your finished book and get a permanent page for it: your cover, your description, your words, and a link straight to wherever you sell it. Five listings are free. We take no commission and never sit between you and your reader, so you keep every cent you earn. Build a public author profile, publish short stories, and answer other writers on the open question board. Paid plans add extra listing slots, a page for a work in progress readers can follow before release, and catalogues for small presses.
