Demographic Analysis with Deficient Data
by Ali Kouaouci
About the book
This manual provides training on PAS and Mortpak software to correct deficient demographic data. It details the analysis of age and sex structures, the smoothing of data, as well as the adjustment of mortality, fertility and internal migration rates. This course is typically offered to master's students, as it assumes prior knowledge of the principles and techniques of demographic analysis using reliable and comprehensive data. However, in practice, the data are often incomplete or unreliable. The main goal of this course is to provide students with the skills to effectively evaluate and use deficient demographic data. A secondary goal is to introduce students to the U. S. Census Bureau's Population Analysis Software (PAS) and the United Nations' Mortpak software, which are used to analyze population structure, fertility, mortality, and migration using microcomputers.
