About the book

Don't Be So Loyal That You Betray Yourself is a heartfelt exploration of the dangers of misplaced loyalty and the cost of remaining committed to people, relationships, and situations that slowly diminish who we are. In this book, I challenge the belief that loyalty must be maintained at all costs, even when it requires us to silence our pain, compromise our values, ignore red flags, or abandon ourselves to keep others comfortable. I explore how the desire to prove our faithfulness can sometimes lead us to tolerate what we should confront and remain where we are no longer treated with the care, respect, or honesty we deserve. Through honest reflections and thought-provoking insights, I invite readers to examine the difference between genuine loyalty and self-betrayal. I want to encourage those who continually make excuses for others, carry the weight of one-sided relationships, or feel guilty for establishing boundaries to recognize that loving others should not require losing themselves. My intention is not to teach people to become disloyal, selfish, or indifferent. Rather, I want to challenge the idea that being a good person means accepting everything, enduring every hurt, or remaining committed regardless of the cost. Loyalty without discernment can become a prison, and faithfulness to others should never demand complete unfaithfulness to yourself. My hope is that this book will encourage readers to recognize their worth, establish healthy boundaries, and find the courage to walk away from what continually harms them. Sometimes, the most difficult lesson is learning that you can love someone, wish them well, and still choose not to remain in a situation that is breaking you. Because loyalty is a virtue, but when keeping it means losing yourself, it is time to reconsider what your loyalty is costing you.
