The Power of Tawakkul
An Islamic Short Story
Written by: Zayed Hasan
There was a young boy named Zayed who lived in a small and peaceful village with his parents. He was a kind, honest, and polite boy. His father was a hardworking man, and his mother was a caring woman. They always taught him good manners and the beautiful teachings of Islam. Zayed loved his parents and respected them very much.
Zayed was a student at a local Islamic school. He enjoyed learning new things, especially about Islam. He loved reading the Holy Qur'an and listening to stories about the Prophets. He believed that every Muslim should try to become a good person and follow the teachings of Allah.
Every morning, Zayed woke up early for Fajr Salah. Sometimes he felt sleepy, especially during cold mornings, but he always tried to perform his prayer on time. After Salah, he often read a few verses of the Holy Qur'an. His father sometimes sat beside him and explained the meanings of the verses.
His father always said, "My son, never forget Allah in your life. Remember Him when you are happy and when you face difficulties. Allah knows everything, and He is aware of everything that happens in our lives."
Zayed listened carefully to his father's advice. He wanted to become a good Muslim, gain useful knowledge, and make his parents proud.
One beautiful morning, Zayed woke up early and prepared himself for school. He performed Fajr Salah and returned home. His mother had already prepared breakfast for him. After eating, he went to his room and arranged his schoolbag. He placed his books, notebooks, pencils, and other necessary things inside it.
His mother came into the room and asked, "Zayed, have you taken all your books?"
"Yes, Mother. Everything is ready," he replied.
His mother smiled and said, "May Allah bless you, protect you, and give you success in your studies."
"Ameen," Zayed replied happily.
He took his schoolbag and left for school. The weather was pleasant. A cool breeze was blowing, birds were singing in the trees, and people were going to their daily work. Zayed enjoyed walking through the village. On his way, he met some friends and greeted them with "Assalamu Alaikum."
After walking for some time, he noticed a small shop beside the road. He remembered that he needed a new pencil, so he decided to stop there. He entered the shop, greeted the shopkeeper, and asked for a pencil.
He placed his schoolbag beside the shop while choosing the pencil. After buying it, he thanked the shopkeeper and continued walking towards school. However, he did not notice that he had forgotten his schoolbag near the shop.
When he reached the school gate, he suddenly realised that his bag was missing. He looked at his hands and around him, but the bag was nowhere to be seen.
"Oh no! Where is my schoolbag?" he said with worry.
He checked his surroundings again. He became nervous because all his books, notebooks, and important school materials were inside it. He thought about his teachers and wondered how he would attend his classes without his books.
For a moment, he did not know what to do. Then he tried to remember where he had last seen his bag. Suddenly, he remembered the small shop where he had bought his pencil.
"Perhaps I left my bag there," he thought.
He decided to return and search for it.
While walking back, many thoughts came into his mind. He wondered whether someone had taken his bag or whether it was still lying near the shop. He became worried again and started walking faster.
But suddenly, he remembered the advice of his father. His father had once told him, "Whenever you face a difficulty, do not lose hope. Remember Allah, make Du'a, and try your best to solve the problem."
Zayed stopped walking for a moment. He understood that worrying alone would not help him. He raised his hands and made Du'a to Allah.
"O Allah! You know everything. You know where my schoolbag is. Please help me find it and give me patience. I trust You and ask for Your help."
After making Du'a, he felt a little calmer. He remembered that Allah is aware of everything, even the things that people cannot see.
Zayed understood that Tawakkul meant trusting Allah while making sincere efforts. It did not mean sitting quietly and waiting for everything to happen. A person must try his best and leave the final result to Allah.
With this thought in his heart, he continued searching for his schoolbag.
First, he returned to the road where he had walked earlier. He looked near the trees, beside the road, and around the places where he had stopped. But he could not find anything.
After some time, he reached the small shop. He greeted the shopkeeper and asked, "Uncle, did you see a schoolbag here? I think I left it somewhere near your shop."
The shopkeeper thought for a moment and replied, "I am sorry, my son. I did not notice any schoolbag. Perhaps someone nearby has seen it. You can ask them."
Zayed thanked him and started asking the people around the shop. He asked a few people, but nobody knew anything about his bag.
He was becoming tired and worried again. He had already spent a lot of time searching, and he did not know where else to look.
At that moment, he remembered something his mother often told him. She always said, "Patience is a beautiful quality. A Muslim should not become hopeless when something goes wrong. We should always ask Allah for help and remain patient."
These words gave him courage. He decided not to give up. He knew that he had to make an effort instead of simply worrying about the result.
He walked a little further along the road. There was a large tree beside a small wooden bench where people often sat to rest. As he passed the tree, something familiar caught his attention.
He looked carefully and noticed a schoolbag lying near the bench.
He quickly went towards it. It was his schoolbag!
He picked it up and opened it. His books, notebooks, and other belongings were all inside. Nothing was missing.
He felt extremely happy and said, "Alhamdulillah! All praise belongs to Allah. I was so worried, but Allah helped me find my bag."
He thanked Allah for giving him patience and helping him during his difficulty. He understood that he should never lose hope or forget Allah.
After checking his belongings, he held his bag carefully and started walking towards home.
When Zayed reached home, his mother was waiting for him. She noticed that he had returned later than usual.
She asked, "Zayed, why are you so late today? Did something happen?"
Zayed sat beside her and explained everything. He told her how he had forgotten his schoolbag near the shop, how worried he had become, and how he had searched for it. He also told her that he had made Du'a and finally found his bag.
His mother listened carefully and smiled.
She said, "My son, I am happy that you did not lose hope. But you should always remember something important. Tawakkul means trusting Allah while making sincere efforts. It does not mean that we should stop working and only wait for things to happen."
Zayed looked at her and asked, "Does that mean I should make Du'a and also try my best to solve my problems?"
His mother replied, "Exactly. We should make Du'a, work hard, remain patient, and trust Allah. The final result is in His hands."
Zayed listened carefully and understood her words.
That evening, after Maghrib Salah, he sat with his father and shared the entire experience. His father was pleased to hear that Zayed had remembered Allah during a difficult situation.
His father said, "My son, life is full of different situations. Sometimes we receive happiness, and sometimes we face difficulties. But a Muslim should remember Allah in both situations."
Zayed asked, "Father, how can I become stronger when I face difficulties?"
His father replied, "By strengthening your relationship with Allah. Perform your Salah regularly, read the Qur'an, make Du'a, and remain patient. Also, remember that we cannot control everything in our lives, but we can always try our best and trust Allah."
He continued, "When Allah gives you something good, say Alhamdulillah. When you face a problem, seek His help and never lose hope in His mercy."
Zayed replied, "Insha'Allah, Father. I will always remember your advice."
A few days later, Zayed was sitting with his friends during their free time. One of his friends noticed that Zayed always tried to remain calm when something unexpected happened.
He asked, "Zayed, how do you stay calm when you face problems?"
Zayed smiled and replied, "I try to remember Allah. Whenever I face a difficulty, I make Du'a, remain patient, and do my best to solve it."
His friend asked, "But what if your problem is not solved?"
Zayed replied, "We should never lose hope. Allah knows what is best for us. Sometimes we do not understand why something happens, but we should continue making efforts and trusting Him."
His friend listened carefully and said, "You have taught me something important today. I should also remember Allah during difficult times."
Zayed replied, "Yes. We should never forget Allah, whether we are happy or sad."
