The authors
Meet the indie authors
The independent writers behind the books: their stories, in their words.

Matthew McConville
I’m an indie author from the North West of England, although becoming an author was never actually part of the plan. I started writing Treasures of Danu because I had a story in my head that wouldn’t leave me alone, and somehow that turned into a 500-page adult dark fantasy rooted in Irish mythology. I like horror, humour, found family, complicated characters and stories that get a little darker than expected. When I’m not writing, I’m usually reading, listening to an audiobook on my commute, or trying to work out how on earth people are supposed to market a book once they’ve written one.

Mehmet Korkmaz
Mehmet Korkmaz writes about real life, not theory. He has worked many different jobs, met thousands of people, and lived through ordinary situations that quietly shape who we become. From those experiences — the conversations, the mistakes, the small decisions, and the hard lessons — he writes about character, discipline, and personal growth. His books are grounded in what he has actually lived. He believes the most useful insights rarely come from big ideas. They come from paying attention to everyday life and turning those moments into practical change.

Melissa D Brace
I’m a Canadian author writing character-driven stories about family, identity, survival, and the complicated things people carry with them. I’m drawn to the quieter parts of people’s lives, the things that shape them long before anyone else realizes there’s a story there. My writing tends to balance emotional depth with sharp observation, dark humour, and a little messiness. I’m interested in flawed people, complicated relationships, and the moments when someone finally begins to see themselves, their past, or the people around them differently. I’m an independent Canadian author, and I’m particularly interested in telling stories that feel emotionally honest rather than neatly resolved. My goal is to write characters who feel like real people: contradictory, imperfect, sometimes difficult, and ultimately human.

Michael Ajose
I am a Bible teacher, lay preacher and author whose passion is to see everyday Christians grow in biblical literacy, theological understanding and a deeper walk with God. I enjoy making the Bible accessible with an engaging, “jargon-free” teaching style. I started teaching the Bible at university, where I led small groups as part of the Christian Union at Lancaster University and led an evangelistic campus mission. I’ve also led workplace Bible studies and founded the Christian Network at my workplace. In addition, I ran a popular online expository Bible study class. I’ve had a long and distinguished career in technology at varying levels, including leadership. In addition to writing, teaching and preaching, I wrote and produced a short film called “The Portrait” (2011) and wrote a popular stage play, “Bangles” produced by Colours Productions. My debut book, “The Lord’s Prayer as a Way of Life” is a thought-provoking discipleship guide, exploring the Lord’s Prayer in depth and how it can be applied to our lives. I run an online blog and platform called “The Ordinary Theologian” (with Instagram and TikTok channels too). My interests are film (I LOVE a good movie!), theatre, business / entrepreneurship, history, politics and culture. I live in London with my wonderful wife, Christiana and am a member of All Saints Church in Clapham Park, London. Less

Michael Albergo
A professional engineer and graduate of MIT (engineering and humanities), Michael Albergo enjoyed a career as a consulting engineer analyzing public works projects for risk. He teaches risk analysis at New York University and is an avid player of board and role-playing games. His character-driven speculative fiction is rooted in real-life early 20th century locales, people, and events. Native Species, his first novel, was awarded a Kirkus Star. Kirkus called it "an entertaining SF thriller, elegantly written and imaginatively conceived." The review noted that “The author provides an arresting view of human nature through alien eyes, and the riveting action scenes move adroitly from evocative suspense to grisly horror…Albergo also writes in an entrancing lyrical vein in which otherness brings wonder instead of terror.” Mr. Albergo lives in Long Island, New York.

Michael Brownstein
Michael M. Brownstein writes about the small moments between people—the things left unsaid, the connections that form quietly, and the things that stay with us. He spent several years managing a bookstore café, where he watched strangers become regulars and regulars become part of a community. That experience inspired Paperbacks & Baguettes: Stories Between Us, his novella-in-flash. Michael has a habit of noticing what happens around him. He lives in Massachusetts.

Michael Clark

Michael Wallis
E.M. Wallis is an independent British author who combines mystery, psychological suspense and the supernatural with stories rooted in real social issues. A former journalist, Wallis has spent much of his professional life in communications and currently works in public health communications, where his work brings him into contact with some of the complex social issues affecting individuals, families and communities. That experience has become an important influence on his fiction. His stories explore subjects such as isolation, abuse, trauma, grief, inequality and the often unseen struggles taking place behind apparently ordinary lives. Rather than simply writing about these issues, Wallis uses mystery and the supernatural to explore them from unexpected directions. But these are not conventional issue-led stories, nor are they traditional ghost stories. The supernatural often sits quietly beneath an otherwise recognisable world. Characters and readers are encouraged towards one explanation, while clues to something very different are hiding in plain sight. Wallis particularly enjoys the kind of final revelation that doesn't simply provide a twist, but changes the reader's understanding of everything that came before it. His novel Whispers in the Fog combines paranormal mystery with psychological suspense, following a woman whose disturbing visions increasingly convince those around her that she may be responsible for the very crimes she is trying to prevent. Writing as E.M. Wallis, he aims to tell compelling, twist-driven stories that entertain first, while shining a light on real human experiences and social issues, leaving readers with something to think about long after the final page. He is based in Plymouth in the South West of England.

Mila Lewis
Mila Lewis writes literary fiction about the machinery of fame — what it costs to be desired by strangers, and what it does to the people caught in its orbit. Before fiction, she spent years as a technical writer for software companies, learning to say difficult things plainly and trust the reader to keep up. That training shows in her prose: precise, unadorned, with space between the lines for the reader to breathe. She grew up in Southern California, studied in Paris, and now lives in France — which may explain why her novels move between cultures as easily as her characters do. Her literary debts are to Jane Austen, Edith Wharton, Kate Chopin, and Marguerite Duras — writers who understood that the most violent things happen quietly, in drawing rooms and kitchens and the spaces between words.

Milerne Brown
I created Her Reign of Rhythm™ from a belief that no one should have to carry their emotions in silence. I write about the parts of love, heartbreak, vulnerability, healing, and self-worth that we often feel deeply but struggle to say out loud. My debut book, Room for Me, explores one of those uncomfortable truths: sometimes the love can be real, and there still may not be room for you in someone’s life. I want my words to make people stop, feel, talk, and most importantly, realize they aren't alone in what they've experienced. My goal is simple: relate, connect, heal.
