Michael Clark spent twenty-five years teaching young children before writing a novel about a woman with too many people in her head. He lives in Blenheim, New Zealand, with his wife, teenage son, German Shepherd, a Golden Retriever, and a Labrador who appear, uncredited, in almost everything he writes. He is interested in memory — how it holds people in place, and what it costs the person doing the holding.
