Michael Wallis

E.M. Wallis is an independent British author who combines mystery, psychological suspense and the supernatural with stories rooted in real social issues. A former journalist, Wallis has spent much of his professional life in communications and currently works in public health communications, where his work brings him into contact with some of the complex social issues affecting individuals, families and communities. That experience has become an important influence on his fiction. His stories explore subjects such as isolation, abuse, trauma, grief, inequality and the often unseen struggles taking place behind apparently ordinary lives. Rather than simply writing about these issues, Wallis uses mystery and the supernatural to explore them from unexpected directions. But these are not conventional issue-led stories, nor are they traditional ghost stories. The supernatural often sits quietly beneath an otherwise recognisable world. Characters and readers are encouraged towards one explanation, while clues to something very different are hiding in plain sight. Wallis particularly enjoys the kind of final revelation that doesn't simply provide a twist, but changes the reader's understanding of everything that came before it. His novel Whispers in the Fog combines paranormal mystery with psychological suspense, following a woman whose disturbing visions increasingly convince those around her that she may be responsible for the very crimes she is trying to prevent. Writing as E.M. Wallis, he aims to tell compelling, twist-driven stories that entertain first, while shining a light on real human experiences and social issues, leaving readers with something to think about long after the final page. He is based in Plymouth in the South West of England.

Paula Peckham is a fifth-generation Texan. Her debut novel, Protected, was an ACFW Genesis semi-finalist in 2020 and won a Gold Medal in the 2022 Global Book Awards. She also wrote several articles for The Journal and The Guide magazines.
