About the book
If you hear her voice… you’re dead. Nell Craftmen, Chicago's greatest detective, has solved every case put before him. Until now, he has never faced a case like this. When a serial killer known only as Nightingale begins leaving behind a trail of bodies and a haunting song before every murder, Nell is determined to uncover the truth behind the voice terrorizing the city. When Loid Kingston, a mechanic living a quiet life, discovers that his new love interest, Aira, has become one of the prime suspects due to her natural singing talent and presence at multiple crime scenes, Nell relentlessly presses her for answers. Determined to prove the woman he is growing to love is innocent, Loid agrees to work alongside Nell to investigate every possible suspect, including Aira, and bring the truth to light. But as the investigation continues, Loid uncovers secrets buried in Nell’s past, forcing Nell to confront a terrifying possibility. The murders are not random. The pattern points to someone, and that someone is him. As Nell begins to suspect Loid may be Nightingale’s accomplice because of his unwavering loyalty to one of the suspects, and Loid begins to question whether the man Nell claims to be is the man he truly is, the two are forced to wonder if they can trust each other at all as their search continues. With Nightingale always one step ahead, they must uncover the truth behind the voice and the motive driving it.
