She earned her degree in Technical Writing from Utah State University and started writing and her editing business as soon as her kids were big enough to pour their own cereal. My name is K.T. I've been writing fiction as long as I can remember. I started writing fanfiction and re-writing classic fairytales. I'd write on loose leaf paper, scraps and napkins, my parents' old Microsoft Desktop with Windows 96 on it and then eventually my own computers. I'd sketch ideas of inspiring female characters who saved themselves, strong male figures who lead with compassion and patience, awe-inspiring action and devastatingly heart-breaking love stories. I've always wanted to publish a novel. I never thought it would be a romance novel! I fell in love with modern romance in 2024, reading a plethora of novels on Kindle Unlimited. It had been years since I'd read a book. Working full time and having three kids limited my personal time. In 2024, after finishing a romance novel that touched my heart in a special way, I thought, "I can write this too." It was time to get back to what I love. It'd been years since I wrote. Motherhood, postpartum depression and other mental health issues cut off my creative energy. But after reading romance novels, I felt inspired. Thus, 'The Slow Dance', was developed. Inspired by the surroundings of Northern Michigan and written mostly on my phone while I tried to sleep train my daughter, The Pine Lake Series came to life. 'The Slow Dance' is the first book in the series. A small-town, slow-burn romance about Katelynn Rhett who is on the run from her ex-husband. She escapes to Pine Lake hoping to find refuge and build a new life. She finds love too when her neighbor, Redmond Prices shows her what true partnership is. As a retired Army Ranger, Redmond is determined to keep Katelynn safe from her past, but the severity of it takes him by surprise. Keeping Katelynn safe proves to be harder than expected. Kathryn has written multiple young adult collective biographies on women and war for the Chicago Review Press. Her first book, Women Heroes of World War II, gets all the attention, but Booklist gave Kathryn's book on the Pacific Theater of WWII a starred review and likened each chapter to "a cliff-hanger screenplay." I’m Katie-jo—though most people call me KJ. I’m an autistic, ADHD Christian, writer, musician, wife and mum, trying to make sense of the beautiful, complicated tangle of faith, family, disability and everyday life. I write about the places where these things meet: in churches, classrooms, homes and communities, and in the quiet moments when we are learning how to love one another better. For many years I worked in schools and alternative provisions, supporting young people with additional needs and helping educators create spaces where nobody has to hide who they are in order to belong. I’ve taught, trained, guest lectured and contributed to NHS materials on making healthcare more accessible for autistic people. I also work alongside families navigating the often bewildering world of disability support, including through my role as a parent representative for the Bedford Borough Parent Carer Forum. Much of my life has been shaped by home education. I’ve educated my own children, helped run large online communities and supported local cooperatives, discovering along the way that learning rarely follows a straight line—and that the best classrooms often begin with curiosity, trust and a willingness to listen. I care deeply about disability inclusion in churches, and about the work of making room at the table not as a gesture of kindness, but because everybody belongs there. Through fiction, music, advocacy and the occasional stubborn conversation, I’m trying to help the Church listen more carefully, love more bravely and become a place where people can arrive exactly as they are.
