About the book

Viable Rose is a Historical Fiction / Gothic Mystery and family saga set in Reykjavík, Iceland, in 1922. Eighteen-year-old Renée returns from Florida to her wealthy ancestral home after receiving a letter from her dying grandmother. Her return soon begins to uncover buried family secrets, questions of identity, crimes, and political connections that challenge everything she believes about her family and herself. As Renée becomes increasingly drawn into the history of the household, she is forced to confront the expectations placed upon women and the social structures surrounding her. Set against the atmospheric backdrop of interwar Iceland, the novel explores family expectations, identity, social position, women’s lives, and the hidden tensions within a privileged household. The story combines historical fiction with Gothic mystery and elements of a family saga.
