About the book

Halidom was built to survive after the world couldn't. A vertical city beneath an engineered rainfall. Above the clouds, the Highborn stopped looking down. Below them, the Rooted keep it running. When Jax crosses the Cloudline, he finds a city that's been lying to everyone, including itself. His journey pulls him toward a lost tower, and airships that hold the world together with song. As the rain begins to change and the systems keeping Halidom alive start to fail, Jax, Elyra, Zinn, and Seedbinder Brae uncover a betrayal hidden inside the city itself. What began as a journey across a divided society becomes a fight to repair the bonds holding their world together. United we climb. Divided we fall.

About the author

Patrick LaJuett

Greetings, I'm Patrick LaJuett. I grew up in Rochester, New York, a city that helped the world imagine through film, print, and lens. It also taught me something that found its way into my fiction: people can build remarkable things, but even the greatest systems last only if someone maintains them. I've spent my career in visual communication and marketing, where storytelling has always been at the heart of my work. Beneath the Cloudline is my first novel, a YA hopepunk story about a city divided by clouds and the people who keep it running. Today I live with my wife and our dogs in the foothills of North Carolina, where I'm continuing to explore stories about repair, belonging, and the things people choose to build together.
