Beneath the Canopy, is a middle-grade historical novel inspired by true WWII experiences. Set in the Netherlands during Nazi occupation, Operation Market Garden, and the Hunger Winter, it follows two children living only miles apart whose vastly different experiences reveal the war through a child’s eyes—a story of survival, courage, and unexpected kindness.

About the author
I’m Lynda Riggers—author, longtime paralegal, mom, very enthusiastic new grandma, cancer warrior, and firm believer that animals are often easier than humans (though I’m pretty fond of humans, too). My writing has appeared in Elephants and Tea and Patient Power, and I’m the author of the nonfiction books Voices of Cancer and Voices of LGBTQ+, as well as the women’s fiction novel The Placeholder. (Under the name Lynda Wolters.) By day, I’ve spent more than three decades working in the legal field as a paralegal. By life, I’m approaching 60, figuring out this whole single-woman chapter, loving the heck out of my grandchild, writing the stories that won’t leave me alone, and trying not to take any of it—or myself—too seriously. I love good books, complicated people, animals of nearly every variety, humor in inappropriate places, and stories that remind us we’re all just doing the best we can with the lives we’ve been handed.
