About the book

A political novella about memory, migration, and Pan-African unity. After xenophobic violence in South Africa, Ghanaian carpenter Kweku Badu returns to Ghana with his daughter Abena, carrying little more than a suitcase and the trauma of displacement. His airport interview attracts the attention of Professor Enoch Agyeman, an elderly historian who invites him to build a symbolic table for a fictional Pan-African gathering in Accra. Around that table, continental Africans and diaspora delegates argue over borders, migration, land, reparations, economic ownership, climate justice, disability rights, religion, youth, women’s power, and accountability. The story moves toward the drafting of the fictional Accra Covenant for African and Diasporic Unity and insists that unity must become measurable work rather than ceremony or slogan.
