I was born in Szczecin, Poland, in 1947, and moved to Israel with my family at age two. Growing up in a family deeply affected by the Holocaust, I became interested in the lives, memories, and stories that history so often leaves behind. I served as a military photographer during the Six-Day War and later spent several years living and studying in Italy. Since 2006, I have made my home in Tuscany, where I continue to write. My books explore European history, Jewish heritage, human relationships, and the choices people make when confronted with extraordinary circumstances. Some are inspired by my own family's experiences, while others grow out of historical research and imagination. Among my novels are *Lilly's Album*, based on the life of my aunt who perished in the Holocaust; *The Cross and the Almond Tree*, a story of forbidden love in Renaissance Sicily; and *Red Leather Shoes*, a historical novel exploring the disturbing transformation of an ordinary young woman into a figure of cruelty and power. I write because I believe every historical event hides human lives worth remembering, and because fiction lets us ask questions history alone cannot always answer.
