I've been in love with writing since I was twelve years old, but I never dreamt that one day people from around the world would read my work. I've spent a lifetime watching and listening to people, and it's the damaged individuals who have always fascinated me. What made them this way? What trauma or abuse shaped them? How did it affect the adults they became? These are the questions at the heart of my novellas. My first published novella, Cocoon of Anger, was a story that had lived with me for decades. Over the years I returned to it again and again, revising and refining it, always trying to capture the feeling of a claustrophobic life and the quiet anger simmering beneath the surface. Only when I felt I had done that did I let it go into the world. I write novellas because I love the precision of the form. With so little room to spare, every scene, every sentence and every word must earn its place. I want my stories to linger long after the final page. I don't write to provide easy answers. I want readers to ask themselves why people behave as they do, and perhaps carry those questions with them long after they've finished reading. I'm a Yorkshire lass, born and bred, and I'd like to think a little Yorkshire grit finds its way into everything I write. KVBECK Author of: Cocoon of Anger The Avid Gardener The Phoenix Group
